During the summer months our skin feels young, alive and glowing, but
as winter approaches our skin begins to feel dry, dull and sluggish.
Drink water
Hydrate your skin from within by drinking lots of water. Carry a bottle
with you when you go outside but when the weather gets too cold, Herbal
Tea is perfect for hydration. Your skin will soon have a healthy glow.
So drink up and don’t let your skin go thirsty.
Circulation
When it’s cold your body needs the blood circulating around the vital
organs which can mean that everywhere else looks tired and dull. Start
by massaging your hands and your feet, or just remembering to wiggle
your toes. This will get the blood circulating and benefits everywhere.
Your cheeks will have a bit more colour and your eyes will brighten.
Make sure that you include some massage when you cleanse and moisturise
your skin in the morning and night. Rhythmically tap your face as this
will increase the lymphatic flow and help detox.
Exfoliate A good body scrub and facial exfoliant can help remove dead skin cells from your face and body. Add this to your cleansing routine once a week. Not only will you feel fresh and tingly but your skin will be free from all those old dry cells. This doesn’t have to cost a fortune, add a teaspoon of sugar to your daily moisuriser, rub it in and then wipe it off and that will give you better hydration. You can do this with moisturisers for the face, the body and for the hands. Moisturise Indoor heating, and low humidity can strip the skin it of its moisture, resulting in a flaky, rough complexion that's about as silky as the floor of the Sahara desert. The cold weather exposure contributes to the breakdown of collagen--the connective tissue that maintains skin's firmness--and can result in increased fine lines, tightness and an overall flaky and dry complexion. The benefits of applying a moisturiser are clear and immediate as gaps and cracks between skin cells are filled in and fortified and elasticity is restored for a smooth and supple appearance. Now is the time to switch to a richer moisuriser that's powerful enough to not only replenish moisture loss but also to seal in the moisture that's already there. Another tip...after applying moisturiser or face cream on your face, spritz your face with mineral water for the moisturizer to absorb well. Sunscreen Don’t say goodbye to your sunscreen just because summer is over. Before leaving home, apply a sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 or more. This will protect your skin from the elements. Alternatively, choose a product can combines a sunscreen within a moisturiser. Gloves It’s simple but it works! Why expose your hands to the cold. Choose a good quality pair that does not irritate the skin. If you’re allergic to wool, wear a cotton mitten underneath. It will help keep your hands dry and warm. Flaxseed oil Although it doesn’t taste very great flaxseed oil can moisturize your body from the inside. Since it is rich in vital fatty acids it can do a lot for your overall health. It is available in oil form as well as in capsule form.Health and Essential Ltd Oil bath Now how does a jojoba oil or sweet almond bath sound to you? Relaxing isn’t it! You don’t have to keep these for holidays. Nourish you skin by adding a few drops of these oils into your every day bath. It will do wonders for your skin. Don’t lick… …your lips we mean. If you do, you’ll only chap your lips even more. Reduce the amount of kissing you do outside and keep a lip balm in your purse and apply it when you’re tempted to lick! |

It is wise to avoid smoking, if for no other reason than that it damages the appearance of the skin. (although there are other, even better, reasons aswell!) Cigarette smoke and tar deprive the skin of the nutrients and oxygen it needs for good health, ultimately leaving it looking dull and lifeless. They lead to the formation of harmful free radicals and weaken the collagen and elastin fibres, with the result that the skin becomes prematurely wrinkled.
